Catering by Tarnow was established in 1957 by Carl and Lillyan Tarnow. The business was originally located on Connant Avenue off of Douglas Avenue. In 1982, Catering by Tarnow moved to its present location at 2425 South 11th Street in Kalamazoo. Pine West was introduced as the areas premier location for business and social events. The business has further expanded, nearly doubling its original capacity.

| The Tarnow family originally started business in the Kalamazoo area in 1910 when Adolph A. Tarnow started “Tarnow Dairy”. In 1935, he moved from the farm into town and delivered milk from a horse drawn wagon. The dairy soon grew into the areas largest home delivery service. The dairy expanded its product line to include twenty-eight items delivered right to your door! |

Adolph passed the business over to his son, Carl Sr. who ran it until his son, Carl Jr. took it over. Tarnow’s has always been a family operated business, and we are very proud of this!

| In 1951, Carl started “Tarnow’s Restaurant” located in front of the dairy. He built the walls of the dairy bar himself. Due to the popularity of the restaurant, Carl had to expand. As Carl says, “People were lined up a block down the street waiting to get in for lunch.” Carl’s Mom helped with the cooking. Maxine was know for her “good home cooking!” |

From the beginnings of the small restaurant, Carl expanded into catering. At first, Catering by Tarnow catered to small parties that consisted mainly of sandwiches, salads, cake and ice cream…and Carl’s famous punch! In the early seventies, when the events began to grow larger, Carl expanded his staff. Today, Carl continues to cook “just like Mom used to.” Tarnow’s has always been known for its good food, and plenty of it!
Catering by Tarnow provides its customers with exceptional value, uncompromising quality of food and service, and a beautiful atmosphere.
